New York State Police troopers were dispatched to a stretch of the Thruway in Ramapo shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, following reports of an erratic driver.

Troopers tracked down the alleged erratic driver, Long Island resident Katarina Bennett, 25, and her passenger, Schenectady resident Jason Scott, 29, on the shoulder of the road, and police said that while interviewing the pair, they were given probable cause to search the vehicles and its occupants.

Police said that during the search, Scott was found in possession of 17 grams of Phencyclidine - more commonly known as Angel Dust or PCP - and it was determined that Bennett was intoxicated. The pair was arrested, and Scott was charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance for a hallucinogen and stimulant and a third misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance. Bennett was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor. She was also cited for vehicle and traffic violations.

Bennett was issued traffic tickets and released. She is due back in court on Jan. 4 to answer the charges. Scott is being held as of Thursday morning pending arraignment in the Town of Ramapo Court. No bail amount or return court date has been released by police.
