Orangetown Police Make Numerous Arrests In Pearl River

PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Pearl River were generally happy and peaceful Sunday, but, police say, they still found themselves making a number of arrests in the community.

Orangetown police say they arrested more than 20 people on various charges ranging from assault to disorderly conduct to peddling without a license, public urination and driving while intoxicated.

Among those arrested in Pearl River:

Kenneth McCormick, 50, of Brooklyn, was charged with second-degree forgery of an official instrument, possession of a forged instrument, and peddling without a license. Police said they were checking vendor permits at an event and McCormick handed them a phony one. He was sent to Rockland County Jail.
Steven Scarpinato, 34, of Pearl River, was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and obstruction of governmental justice after, police said, he refused to move aside to help pedestrian traffic. He lunged at officers and flailed his arms when they tried to arrest him, police said. He was released on $200 bail.
Derek Quintana, 34, of Greenwood Lake, N.J., was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, police said. Officers were dispersing the crowd after a large fight and Quiintana waved his hands and shouted at them, they said. He was released on $200 bail.
Theodore J. Zuria, 23, of Stony Point, was charged with third-degree assault in connection with a fight which left a teenage boy bleeding, police said. He was released on $150 bail.

In another arrest in Rockland, Amy G. Hartwell, 42, of Tappan, was charged with driving while intoxicated, a felony, and aggravated driving while intoxicated after a hit-and-run accident, police said. Police said that the other driver followed Hartwell to her home and called police. When officers arrived, they said, they found Hartwell standing by her car with an open container of alcohol. Hartwell failed both a field sobriety test and a breath test, police said.

Police said they also issued 18 other summonses -- the majority of them in Pearl River -- on Sunday for offenses ranging from public urination, to open containers and possession of alcohol by minors.
