State Police are asking residents who may have been stopped by a person saying they were an on-duty police officer to contact their offices following the arrest of a local man who posed as an officer.
Christopher S. Kirkpatrick, 27, of Wawayanda, was charged with criminal impersonation on Monday, Feb. 5 after stopping a motorist traveling westbound on the I-84 in Wawayanda, said Trooper Steven Nevel.
During the stop, Kirkpatrick identified himself as both an off-duty Rockland County Police Officer and Poughkeepsie Police Officer. He was driving a green 2002 Ford F150 pickup at the time of the incident. He was also in possession of a portable radio, handcuffs, and white LED strobe lights attached to the visor of his vehicle, Nevel said.
Kirkpatrick was released on an appearance ticket pending a future court appearance.
Anyone who experienced a similar incident is asked to contact the state police Middletown BCI Unit at 845-344-5353.
