One Killed In Overnight Tractor-Trailer Crash In Rockland

HILLBURN, N.Y. -- State Police are investigating an overnight rollover accident that resulted in the death of a Bridgeport, Conn., man on southbound I-87 in Hillburn in Rockland County.

The investigation has revealed that a 2007 Volvo tractor-trailer operated by John Rivera, 59, lost control of his vehicle on the ramp from Route 17 at around midnight, striking the guide rail off the left shoulder of the roadway, police said.

Rivera then continued across both lanes of traffic, rolling over, according to police.

Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rockland County Medical Examiner.

The investigation is ongoing.
