VALLEY COTTAGE, N.Y. -- One of the hottest rap duos on the scene is straight outta Valley Cottage.
TRØN & DVD, a.k.a. brothers Norvin and Darian Van Dunk, are set to release their first album "Afraid of the Dark" on Friday.
"It's super exciting," Darian said. "We've been doing this for a long time and have been trying to perfect our craft to a level we can be proud of. We want to put this out to show people what we have."
Getting to release their first record is a sense of validation, Norvin said.
The brothers said the album is an introduction to their music and features all different types of songs- tracks that make you feel low and tracks that make you feel high.
Norvin got his name from his original nickname- Norvatron 5000, while DVD is Darien's initials. The two have been making their mark for years, opening for such acts as Ghostface and 21 Pilots, while performing on the Vans Warped Tour and Bamboozled.
When it comes to the group, the two try to keep sibling rivalry to a minimum, but they are often competing on a song to see who has the best verse.
"We don't get into arguments about music," Darian said. "Outside of music is where we get into arguments, but we click a lot. We have similar tastes."
"Every decision is a TRØN & DVD decision," Norvin said. "We compromise a lot. Compromise is key."
Growing up in Valley Cottage, the two had a lot of friends who liked to rap, which helped expose them to the genre.
"We would talk about things suburban kids were doing, like house parties or hanging out on a cul-de-sac," Darian said. "We want to be as genuine as possible."
When they are not making their own music, Darien is finishing up at Brooklyn College while interning for Bobby Flay's production studio, while Norvin, who has a wife and daughter, runs Lil' Beats, which teaches kids about music production.
TRØN & DVD will be hosting a listening party and album signing at Kiam Records at 95 Main Street in Nyack at 7 p.m. Friday.
