The establishment not only serves an array of fresh and locally sourced food but places emphasis on helping the community in various ways.

This week, Red Hill Cafe is donating 10 percent of daily sales to Jawonio, an organization that support people with special needs.

The fundraiser began on Valentine's Day and continues to Friday, Feb. 19.

Owner Elena Hansen talked about her family-owned business, calling it one of "fewer and fewer destinations left in suburbia" like it.

"Our chef, a CIA graduate, prepares all the food and baked goods on the premises daily," Hansen said.

The menu features everything from soup, salads, sandwiches, as well as a full breakfast and lunch menu items to order, which includes specialties from Spain.

"Our coffee is roasted locally in Tarrytown, and ground to brew before is served. Espresso drinks are made and served by a barista," Hansen enthused.

Among specialty items, Jane's ice cream, made of only natural ingredients comes from a family-owned operation in Kingston, N.Y.

Fresh fruit smoothies, milkshakes and sundaes are all available.

Catering is offered for events and special occasions.

Mother's Day is a big deal at the cafe where a special brunch and promotions at the nursery go hand-in-hand.

Veterans, too, are honored by the business owners who donate to the Snow Ball Express Organization over $3,000 annually on Memorial Day.

And fathers get notice on Father's Day when a barbecue grill is raffled at the restaurant.

Red Hill Cafe is at 241 S. Little Tor Road, New City, N.Y.
