Re-purposed from a vacant 1970s warehouse, the 133-room industrial-chic, brick-and-steel hotel, at 400 High Ave., will offer upscale accommodations and a "lifestyle" experience to corporate travelers and tourists.
The impressive four-story structure, sitting high on a hill above the New York State Thruway, is Rockland's first "boutique" or independent hotel; it's a large, full-scale amenity unaffiliated with a recognized hotel chain.
"There is no truly independent hotel in Rockland," said Christopher Costabile, Time's General Manager. "We're filling the void."
The hotel feels more SoHo than Rockland -- it's cavernous and industrial, with 13- to 21-foot ceilings in the rooms, wide hallways, exposed pipes and beams, and understated, spare design by interior designer/architect Glen & Company, New York. YM Management of New York is the developer. The hotel is one of five brands in the Debut Hotel Group, launched by Hampshire Hotel Management, LLC.
Costabile said the hotel is working with local artists, food purveyors, bike vendors, and other businesses, to integrate distinctive elements into the "destination" hotel. For example, a local bike vendor will supply bikes for rental. Local artists will paint a graffiti-style mural on the roof deck. A chocolate maker will provide confections.
"Everything I try to do is local," Costabile added. "We want to get involved with the community. We want to be part of the community."
Hotel amenities include conference rooms, a 24-hour fitness center, outdoor pool, a breakfast cafe, and a rooftop bar and lounge restaurant with distant views of the Hudson River and the Tappan Zee Bridge. Several spaces lend themselves to private parties, weddings, trade fairs, and other events.
Other luxurious touches include three Tesla charging stations, oversized pillowtop mattresses, a five-mile shuttle service, free parking and wifi. Pets are welcome.
Room rates will range from $145 to $499.
