Golden Gloves Bouts Coming To Rockland

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Premier amateur boxers across the area are getting ready to lace up their gloves to show their stuff during the 90th anniversary Daily News Golden Gloves tournament on Saturday, Feb. 11, in Hillburn.

Since 1927, the event has grown into one of the most popular sporting events in the country. The Gloves has produced legendary boxing champions such as Sugar Ray Robinson, Floyd Paterson, Emile Griffith, Riddick Bowe, Gerry Cooney, Mark Breland, and Howard Davis, Jr.

Sponsors of the event, which benefits NY Daily News charities, Vietnam Veterans of Rockland County and Horses For Heroes, include the Town of Ramapo, Air Kool Mechanical, Traron Electric, Interstate Waste, Claudio Iodice, and Airmont Diner.

Doors open at 3 p.m. with the first bout at 4 p.m. at the Joseph T. St. Lawrence Community, Health & Sports Center, 115 Torne Valley Road, Hillburn.

All tickets will be sold at the door. $20.00 general admission - $10.00 students (14 & under), seniors and first responders.
