The Boards of Education unanimously approved the $5.19 million administrative budget for the 2017-2018 school year.
Incumbent trustees Michael Mark, a Nyack resident, Peggy Zugibe, a North Rockland resident and Deborah Gatti Member-were re-elected to the Rockland BOCES Board of Education for three-year terms which begin July 1. Edward Dingman was elected to represent the Nanuet Union Free School District.
“For nearly 60 years, Rockland BOCES has been helping our local school districts further contain costs by providing innovative instructional programming and key functions such as cooperative purchasing, health and safety inspections, professional development, transportation, and technology services,” said Rockland BOCES CEO Mary Jean Marsico, Ed. D. “We thank our component district trustees for their continued confidence in Rockland BOCES as a valued partner.”
Each school district’s share of the BOCES administrative and capital budgets is based upon the proportion that its students represent among all students in Rockland County, based upon the state’s calculation of Resident Weighted Average Daily Attendance (RWADA).
Component districts are eligible to receive BOCES operating aid from the state on most administrative, capital and program expenditures, subject to certain restrictions. BOCES aid is wealth-equalized; thus less affluent districts receive more aid than wealthier districts.
Rockland BOCES total 2017-18 budget amounts to $117 million. The East Ramapo Central School District Board of Education did not vote due to a religious observance.
