The 8-bit RAMS have spent the last six weeks conceptualizing, designing, building, programming, and testing their robots.

All 47 competing high school teams from around the world ceased work on their robots in compliance with the challenge’s stop build date on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Robot entries will be shipped to the tournament site in advance of the competition next month, according to a release.

Led by FRC Mentors and Clarkstown High School North teachers, Dr. Matthew Schuchman and Brendan Burkhardt, the 8-bit RAMs will compete to win a place in the FIRST® Robotics World Competition, taking place in St. Louis, MO on April 26 – 29.

Winners of this prestigious international competition receive recognition and opportunities associated with their engineering skills and achievements, including coveted internships and job opportunities with organizations, such as NASA and SpaceX, the release said.

“Engaging young people in fun, hands-on, project-oriented teams to build robots can open their eyes to educational and career opportunities never otherwise dreamed of,” said Schuchman. “FIRST Robotics changes lives -- This tournament is the culmination of the team’s hard work, determination and the ultimate test of their engineering and collaborative skills.”

The community is encouraged to attend this free event at Rockland Community College on March 24 – 26.
