Newly Elected Chris Day To Orangetown Residents: 'You're My Boss'

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Rockland County Executive Ed Day isn't the only Day who will have a hand guiding the county -- his son Republican Chris Day is the newly elected Orangetown Supervisor after beating Thom Kleiner by a mere 200 votes in Tuesday's election.

An Iraq War veteran, Day, 32, who owns the West Nyack car wash with ex-Clarkstown police Sgt. Michael Garvey, said in a letter to Orangetown residents on Thursday, that he is looking forward to being "a leader for all Orangetown residents, from Pearl River to Nyack to Palisades and everywhere in between."

This is Day's second time at the ballot box. In 2014 he unsuccessfully challenged incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey for her U.S. Congressional seat.

"You, the people of Orangetown, are now in charge," Day said. "I will now be the supervisor, and I will lead from the front, but you are in control. And as my boss, I promise that over the next two years I will make it such that you would be proud to rehire me again."

Day, who has said in the past that he's not his father, and they do disagree on many topics, said he will "set a standard for ethical, honest leadership with a focus on preserving neighborhoods and protecting residents' tax dollars."

Born and raised in Rockland, following graduation, Day spent two years at SUNY Rockland Community College, volunteering time in student government and other various service-related activities.

After graduating, he transferred to Yale University where he completed his bachelor of arts in political science – the first in his family to earn a four-year degree.

Following Yale, Day was commissioned as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry and completed the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, and Ranger School. After completing his training, he served as a platoon leader and spent just over two months with the unit in Iraq participating in surveillance and reconnaissance missions in the area between Mosul and the Syrian border. He also spent a year in Afghanistan, becoming a captain upon his return.

After leaving the Army, Day returned to Rockland County and earned his MBA from Columbia Business School.

A Palisades resident, Day is married to Jennifer Day and has three children.
