Day has touted his role in reducing Rockland's budget, while Porette has criticized him for allowing Rockland's deficit to climb when Day served on the county Board of Legislators. Porette believes the county should lobby state and federal representatives to allow for partial taxation of tax-exempt properties to pay for emergency services while Day said he was opposed to her plan.
In Clarkstown, Republican Supervisor George Hoehmann is running for re-election against Democrat Michael Sullivan. In September, Hoehmann voted to fire Sullivan as Clarkstown Police Chief.
In Ward 1, Republican incumbent Frank Borelli faces Democrat Ricky Sanchez for town council. In Ward 2, Democrat incumbent Daniel Caprara faces Republican challenger Peter Bradley for town council. In Ward 3, Republican Adrienne Carey faces Democrat Donald Franchino for town council. In Ward 4, Republican incumbent John Noto faces Democrat Patrick Carroll.
in Orangetown, Republican Chris Day, Ed Day's son, is running for supervisor against Democrat Thom Kleiner. Republican incumbents Thomas Diviny and Denis Troy are running against Democrats Allan Ryff and Heather Hurley.
In Ramapo, Republican Bill Weber is running for supervisor against Democrat Michael Specht. For town council, incumbent Democrat Yitzchock Ullman and Democrat David Wanounou are running against Grant Valentine and Shani Bechofer.
In Sloatsburg, voters will decide whether to end age limits on earning volunteer firefighter pension credits and whether to reduce the age to start claiming firefighter pension to 60 from 65.
In Spring Valley, Alan Simon, who is running on the Republican and Democratic lines is running against Allan Thompson of Save Spring Valley, Claudia Jean Louis of Spring Valley Matters and Emilia White of the Reform Party.
Incumbent Asher Grossman, running on the Democratic and Republican lines, Republican Zach Clerina, Democrat Eudson Tyler Francois, Conservative Aaron Morse, Reform Party members Eustache Clerveaux and Chevon Dos Reis, Green Party member Yisroel Eisenbach and Schello Jean-Louis of We Deserve Better are running for two seats on the village board.
In Suffern, incumbent Republican Frank Hagen and Republican Moira Hertzman are running for trustee against Democrat Mark Gomes and Peter Bellin.
