An officer from the Orangetown Police Department spotted a 2013 Ford Escape back into another vehicle on East Central Avenue at approximately 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, before driving away without stopping or attempting to report the incident.

Police said that the officer followed the driver, later identified as 24-year-old Leticia Martinez-Bueno, and conducted a traffic stop for leaving the scene of an accident. During the subsequent stop, the officer said that Martinez-Bueno’s eyes were bloodshot and watery and he detected the smell of alcohol on her breath. She proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests before being taken into custody.

Martinez-Bueno failed a breathalyzer test at Orangetown Police Headquarters and was subsequently charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, a violation. She was processed and released. Martinez-Bueno is due back in Orangetown Justice Court on Dec. 13 to answer the charges.
