ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- Orangetown police are again warning residents to lock their vehicles as a recent wave of thefts from cars has been taking place across the area.

Many of the incidents are crimes of opportunity due to the fact that residents are leaving valuables and money in the vehicles, police said.

Police say that by simply taking a minute to remove all valuables, including cell phones, iPads, wallets, etc., from their cars, residents can dramatically cut the chances that their vehicles will be broken into.

Keeping an eye out in your neighborhood can also help reduce these types of crimes,  police added.

Also, as always, if you see any suspicious activity in the area, call the Orangetown Police Department at 845-359-3700.
