Police responded to a call Thursday afternoon after the woman reported that the male had attempted to rob her on Old Tappan Road in Tappan.

The woman told police she was using the "Let's Go" app to sell her used cell phone. She said the teen responded and said he was interested in buying the phone and the two arranged to meet on Old Tappan Road, police said.

When she arrived, the teen approached her, said he was there to buy the phone, then grabbed her hand and tried to pry the phone away from her by bending her fingers back, which resulted in an injury to the woman, police said.

But the woman was able to hold on to the phone, defend herself by kicking the teen and then break free and call Orangetown Police, police said.

After a search, officers were able to locate the teen, who was arrested at 3:33 p.m. and charged with attempted burglary.
