Officers from the Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to an Airmont store where there were reports of two men that had come into the store, stole fishing equipment and fled the area.

Police said that the caller was able to provide a description of the two suspects and the car they had fled the scene in, and an officer on patrol subsequently was able to conduct a traffic stop of their vehicle in Airmont.

According to police, the officer conducting the stop spotted the stolen fishing equipment in the car, as well as an open container of beer.

The driver, a 57-year-old Airmont resident was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, petit larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He has been remanded to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of bail.

His passenger, a 49-year-old Spring Valley resident, was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. He posted bail and is due back in the Village of Airmont Justice Court later this year.

“The fishing trip was canceled,” the Ramapo Police Department posted on Facebook.
