This story has been updated.

A power saw being used to dismantle an old tractor-trailer led to a large fire of three tractor-trailers and a dumpster at Aluf Plastics on Glenshaw Street in Orangeburg.

The fires were reported around 2 p.m. Tuesday as a dumpster fire spread to the tractor-trailers that contain cardboard, Orangetown Police said.

The Orangeburg, Blauvelt, Tappan, Piermont and Sparkill fire departments all responded to the scene and were able to extinguish the fire.

The South Orangetown Ambulance Corp. and the Rockland Paramedics also responded to the scene. One firefighter was injured during the incident and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, a representative from the Orangetown building department, the Orangetown Fire Inspectors, the Orangetown Police OEM and the Orangetown Detective Bureau all responded to the scene to assist in the investigation.

The investigation revealed the fire was accidentally started by an outside contractor using a power saw to dismantle one of the storage trailers.

The company makes plastic bag liners for numerous products including trash cans and mattresses.
