On Wednesday night, officers from the Ramapo Police Department were dispatched to a Monsey residence, where a taxi driver reported a non-payment of a fare after driving his patron from Paterson in New Jersey.
The driver told responding officers that the man told him he would “be right back” with the $100 fare, and walked into the rear of the house, never to return, police said. One of the officers realized that he had heard a similar story before, involving the same address involving a suspect who resides through the woods in a nearby home.
The following day, police used the department’s computer resources and the officer’s description of the suspect to create a photo array, and the taxi driver was able to identify the man. On Thursday, police in Ramapo were able to locate and identify the suspect, who was arrested for theft of services.
According to police, the suspect also had an outstanding warrant from Ramapo Court for criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned and remanded to the Rockland County Jail. He is due back in court later this year.
