ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - A 54-year-old Rockland County woman was busted intoxicated and asleep behind the wheel after losing control of her vehicle and striking a telephone pole in Orangeburg.
Officers from the Orangetown Police Department were dispatched to Greenbush Road shortly before 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday night following reports of a motor vehicle accident.
Police said that it was determined that Piermont resident Maureen Killeen had left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. When they approached the vehicle, officers said that it appeared that Killeen was asleep in the driver’s seat.
Once she was awoken, police said that it is alleged that Killeen was operating the vehicle while intoxicated. She was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and transported to Nyack Hospital for treatment on non-life-threatening injuries. While at the hospital, police said Killeen consented to a chemical test to determine her blood alcohol level, with the results still pending.
Killeen was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. She has since been released from the hospital and is due back in Orangetown Justice Court to answer the charge.
