PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- A fire in a Lombardi Road home in Pearl River Friday appears to have begun in the garage when a car burst into flames, according to police.
Orangetown police officers along with firefighters from the Pearl River and Nanuet fire departments responded to 66 Lombardi Road about 2:15 p.m. after the fire was reported to authorities, police said.
Firefighters extinguished the flames and remained on the scene until about 4:45 p.m. Authorities did not report any significant damage or injuries.
According to police, the homeowner told investigators that she was trying to start the car inside the garage when she heard a loud noise. The car began to smoke and then burst into flames, police said.
