ORANGETOWN, N.Y. – An Orangetown officer answered a call of duty Friday and ended up helping to deliver a healthy baby girl, police say.
The unidentified officer arrived at the home of a Blauvelt couple around 6:30 a.m. and found them and their 2-year-old daughter in a bathroom where the mother was in labor.
The officer assisted in the birth and then cleared the newborn’s airway so she could give, the police report said, her “first small sneeze,” he said.
Emergency medical crews arrived just in time to cut the umbilical cord, police said.
Mom and baby were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern.
