Nyack Driver Busted For DWI After Driving Into Stop Sign, Utility Pole

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - A driver from Nyack was busted by Orangetown Police after drinking, driving, losing control of his vehicle and striking a stop sign.

Officers from the Orangetown Police Department were dispatched to South Broadway near the intersection of Route 9W in Upper Grandview shortly before 1:15 a.m. on Monday morning following reports of a car that had left the roadway and struck a stop sign and utility pole.

Upon arrival, police said that 30-year-old Juan Moran-Mazariego and the passenger of the car - whose name was not disclosed - appeared to be intoxicated. Moran-Mazariego proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and he was placed under arrest on suspicion of drunk driving.

Police said that at Orangetown Police Headquarters Moran-Mazariego failed a breathalyzer and was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. He was released on bail is due back in Orangetown Court on Dec. 20 to answer the charge.
