Officers were dispatched to New Hempstead Road and the PIP off-ramp for a reported multi-vehicle accident at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Monday night.

Police said that the investigation into the crash revealed that a motorist was traveling east on New Hempstead Road, crossed over the double yellow line repeatedly and struck a second driver head-on. It was later determined that the out of control driver was a 30-year-old woman who officers said was “highly intoxicated.”

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end damage. No injuries were reported.

The woman - whose name was not disclosed by police - was charged with a misdemeanor count of aggravated driving while intoxicated after a breathalyzer showed she had a blood alcohol content more than double the legal limit.

She was processed and released on bail. The woman is due back in the Village of New Hempstead Court next month to answer the charge.
