Man, Woman Charged With Attempted Pearl River Burglary

ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- Orangetown police have charged a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman with attempted burglary.

The arrest came after police responded to a report of two individuals attempting to break into a property on Middletown Road in Pearl River on Monday, about 1:38 a.m., according to police.

The suspects, identified as Christopher L. Torralbas of Pearl River and Valerie A. Helvestine of Middletown, were apprehended at the scene, police report.

Torralbas and Helvestine were transported to Orangetown Police Headquarters for processing; they have been charged with attempted burglary in the third degree, along with third degree criminal mischief, according to officials.

The suspects were arraigned and sent to the Rockland County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail, police report.

The defendants are scheduled to appear in Orangetown Justice Court at a future date, according to officials.
