Officers from the Ramapo Police Department received reports of an assault in progress in the Hillcrest neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 37-year-old man and 32-year-old woman had gotten into a verbal argument over a parking space that turned physical.

Police said that the argument escalated, and the man punched the woman in the chest, then grabbed her by the neck. The woman was able to wrestle herself free, at which point the man picked up a glass bottle, broke a part of it off on the ground and held the sharp edge of the broken glass in the direction of the woman while shouting “menacing remarks” toward her.

Responding officers proceeded to arrest the man, who was charged with attempted assault, menacing and attempted criminal obstruction of breathing, all misdemeanors. He was arraigned in Ramapo Justice Court and released on bail. He is due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
