Man Chokes Victim During Dispute In Pearl River, Police Say

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. - A Rockland man allegedly attempted to choke out his victim when a verbal dispute turned physical in Pearl River.

Officers from the Orangetown Police Department were dispatched to a Pearl River home shortly after 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, where there were reports of the physical dispute between the two men.

According to police, upon arrival, 56-year-old Pearl River resident Gerald Brandt was allegedly subjecting his victim to unwanted physical contact, restricting his breathing by placing his hands on the victim’s neck and choking him.

Brandt was arrested and transported to the Orangetown Police Headquarters, where he was charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal obstruction of breathing and second-degree harassment, a violation. He was arraigned and is scheduled to appear in Orangetown Justice Court to answer the charges on Sept. 25.
