Garnerville resident Demond Vaughan allegedly took a cab on Nov. 12 from Spring Valley and requested to be dropped off at the intersection of Sickles Avenue and North Franklin Street in Nyack.

Police said that at the drop off point, Vaughan asked the driver if he could make change of a $100 bill, and when the cabbie took the money out to get change, Vaughan grabbed the cash and fled the cab on foot, prompting the police investigation.

Detectives from the Orangetown Police Department, with an assist from investigators with the Spring Valley, Ramapo and Haverstraw Police Departments, launched an investigation which led to the arrest of Vaughn, who has been charged with third-degree robbery and criminal possession of stolen property.

Following arraignment in Nyack Justice Court, Vaughan was remanded to the Rockland County Jail. He is due back in court next month to answer the charges.
