Kissane was a valued member of the Hugh Gassner South Spring Valley Firehouse for over 30 years, serving as Commissioner and volunteer. He was instrumental in the creation and completion of the new firehouse which he was so proud of.
The firehouse posted a tribute to Kissane: "It is with deep regret and sorrow to bring to your attention that one of our own has passed. Tom Kissane aka 'TK', 'hammer,' and 'old school,' was a jack of all trades. TK was a father of 4, firefighter, and head commissioner. There is not one bad thing anyone has ever said about this man. Friend to all, mentor and a man of infinite wisdom Tom brought many laughs and insight to all of our worlds."
An electrician with Local 3 in NYC, Kissane especially enjoyed working with his close friend Richie Morales.
A resident of Pearl River for many years, Kissane was often seen at his children's games and events. He was proud of his family and his home which were everything to him.
He is survived by his wife Allison (Sandak) who just celebrated their 19th anniversary; his children Charles, Mary, Thomas, and Elizabeth; his father Charles (Barbara Ann); in-laws Mary and Mike Sandak and siblings Charles, Eileen, Denise, Marie, John, Catherine, and Madeline. He was especially loved by his many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts and uncles.He was predeceased by his mother, Peggy.
Visitation will be held on from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, at the Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Margaret's Church in Pearl River, NY. Burial will follow.
