HAVERSTRAW, N.Y. -- The Honorable Peter Branti Jr, 79, of Pomona formerly of Haverstraw, died on Friday, Dec. 23.

Born on Aug. 31, 1937,  in West Haverstraw to Peter Sr. and Loretta (Natale) Branti, the longtime Haverstraw judge married Ann Spissinger on Aug. 25, 1962, at St Peters Church in Haverstraw. 

Branti, who served in the U.S. Navy Reserve, worked as an attorney with his own practice for 46 years. He served as the justice for the Town of Haverstraw and the Village of West Haverstraw for 20 years and as the Assistant District Attorney and Chief Public Defender from 1978 to 1993 for Rockland County. 

He also served as a legislator for the County of Rockland for four years. 

In his spare time, Branti enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing golf, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife, his children Peter (Susan) Brandi; William (Helene) Brandi; Jennifer Brandi; grandchildren PJ, Jake, Lucy, Peter, and his sister Loretta (Peter) Garifalos of Westwood, N.J., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.He is predeceased by two sisters Theresa Marko and Marie McKeirnan.

The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday until 8 p.m. at the TJ McGowan Sons Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday,  Dec. 28th at St Peters Church in Haverstraw with interment to follow in St Peters Cemetery.
