Noreen Theresa Fitzgerald, 79, Of Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. – Noreen Theresa Fitzgerald, a resident of Nyack, died Friday, May 20. She was 79.

Born Sept. 20,1936, in the Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of Daniel and Nora Mahoney. She lived on Kingsbridge Avenue and attended school there, graduating from Cathedral High School in 1953. In 1966, she moved to her current home in Upper Nyack with her children.

While living in Upper Nyack, she worked for several companies, including the Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center, the law firm of Mann and Mann and ultimately Orange and Rockland, from where she retired after more than 20 years in 1999. She was active in St. Ann’s Parish throughout her time living in Upper Nyack and attended Mass there on a regular basis.

She also volunteered her time to help the homeless as a parishioner of St. Ann’s, which was important to her due to her strong belief in helping other’s less fortunate than herself. She was an incredibly strong woman, one who not only successfully raised four children on her own under incredibly difficult circumstances but did it while battling breast cancer, a disease that she overcame and survived since 1983.

She devoted her life to her children; she raised and supported them as a single parent through sheer will, determination and sacrifice. As a result, her four children were provided with everything necessary to have a successful life.

She is survived by her brother Daniel; children, Dana, Scott and Neil; and grandchildren, Sean and Cara, Brandon and Sophie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Ann’s RC Church in Nyack.
