PEARL RIVER, N.Y. – Mary Holt Moore, a resident of Pearl River, died Wednesday, July 13. She was 88.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she graduated from Hunter College, where she founded its Gaelic Society. An unrepentant Irish Republican and devout Catholic, she dedicated her life to the cause of Irish freedom.
She shared her love of Irish history and language as president of the Bronx Gaelic League and Council of Gaelic Societies. She was honored to be last elected grand marshal of the New York City Saint Patrick's Day Parade.
She is survived by her children, Tommy, Kevin (Kerri), Maureen (Roger) Slattery, Cathleen (Kevin) McNulty, Dermot (Joan), Patrick, Kerry Scriven and Eileen (Bobby) Fitzgerald; 21 grandchildren; great-granddaughter Maureen; brother, Frank Holt; and sister, Ann Reilly.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas A. Moore.
Visitation will be from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home, 34 N. Summit St., Pearl River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret’s R.C. Church, 115 W Central Ave., Pearl River. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
