Jane Day, Mother Of Rockland County Executive, Dies At 89

Jane E. Day, 89, the mother of Rockland County Executive Ed Day, died on Saturday, Oct. 28, at her home on Staten Island.

Formerly of Brooklyn, Jane Day was known to be an avid reader, and perhaps Frank Sinatra's greatest fan, attending his concerts in her younger years. 

She also was interested in nutrition and politics and was a first cousin to the late Vince Lombardi, coach of the Green Bay Packers. 

She was the wife of the late Edwin Day; daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa Izzo, and mother of Edwin and his wife, Jean; Theresa and her husband, Edmund Golat, and Laura Day. She was also the grandmother of Christopher, Michael, Daniel and his wife, Amanda, Kristin, Ryan, and Stephen; great-grandmother of CJ; sister of the late Anthony Izzo, Joseph Izzo, Edmund Izzo, Loretta Parisi, and Mildred Gervase. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Matthew Funeral Home, 2508 Victory Blvd., Staten Island. Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. Committal is private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, N.Y. 10306.
