BLAUVELT, N.Y. -- Connell Bernard Friel, of Blauvelt, died Friday, Nov. 18. He was 92.
He was born and raised in County Donegal, Ireland. He immigrated to America in 1952 and settled in Brooklyn, where he married his beloved wife, Bridget Teresa (née McCahill) in 1953. Together they loved into the world and raised eight children. When he first came to the United States, he worked as a carpenter, but eventually achieved the qualifications to work as a custodial engineer for the New York City Board of Education, a position from which he retired in 1992. To say he was a hard-working man would be quite an understatement.
He is survived by his wife, Bridget; children, Bernard, Daniel, Kathleen, Connell, Kevin, Mary Elizabeth and Paul; brother, Patrick; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Peter.
The family will receive friends from 4-9 p.m. Monday at Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home, 34 N. Summit St., Pearl River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine's Church in Blauvelt. Burial to follow at Ascension Cemetery in Airmont.
