Charles "Charlie" Ellison, 20, a member of the Croton-on-Hudson Emergency Medical Services, died Monday after a long battle with cancer.

Ellison, who played football and lacrosse at Croton-Harmon High School, was the Executive Officers Award recipient for 2016 for the department.

In a Facebook post, the department said: "One of the first things he asked after coming out of a coma was what's going on with Croton EMS and his commitment to the agency held strong during his fight and asking when he could start coming to meeting and standbys."

Ellison, a student at Tulane University, was also known for making friends with all and his smiling face, they added.

Services have not been announced to date.

The Ellison family is asking friends and family to make donations in his name to the Croton EMS PayPal account .
