TAPPAN, N.Y. -- Carol L. Schelin, 68, of Tappan, died Sept. 1.
She was born June 17, 1948, in Jersey City.
She graduated from SUNY-Plattsburgh and went on to earn her master's degree in education from Dominican College, subsequently earning a law degree from Pace University.
She was a director and teacher at the Piermont Community Playgroup for many years. She was an attorney for 32-BJ Legal Services in Manhattan for more than 25 years, focusing on family law and specializing in adoption.
She was a longtime member of the Consistory, director of the Christian education and cemetery treasurer. She was instrumental in designing the recently constructed cremation niches near the Manse Barn at the Tappan Reformed Cemetery. She had a national position on the governing board of the Reformed Church of America.
She is survived by her brother, Robert Schelin; sister-in-law, Carol R. Schelin; niece, Leslie R. Schelin; nephews, Frankie Benicasa (Maureen) and their sons, Brent and Cole, Andy Benicasa (Sara) and their son William; lifelong friend Eleanore Ernst; and her extended close-knit family and friends.
