PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- Pearl River resident Bridie P. Van Slyck died on Friday, Dec. 25. She was 88.
Born in Ireland in 1927, Van Slyck immigrated to the United States in 1948. After being a homemaker, she was a health-care aide in the Bronx. When she retired, she moved to Pearl River.
Van Slyck was active in St. Aedan Catholic Church, and its Legion of Mary, whose mission is the spiritual and social welfare of the community.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William J. Van Slyck; children Mary Jane Begley, Denise O'Neill, Patty Rathschmidt, Bill Van Slyck, Peter Van Slyck, Jim Van Slyck, and Kim Van Slyck; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters Evelyn, Kathleen, and Margaret; and her brother, Peter.
Van Slyck was predeceased by her brothers, John and Patrick, and her sister, Mary.
A wake will be held on Tuesday at the Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home, in Pearl River. Call 845-735-4849 for details.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Aedan's on Wednesday. She will be interred at the Frederick Loescher Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in New Hempstead.
