TAPPAN, N.Y. -- Wine and beer are apparently not the only spirits to be experienced at The Old ’76 House in Tappan, according to a report by lohud.com .

The tavern, built in 1754, was often used as a meeting place for patriots during the Revolutionary War. In 1780, it served as a prison for Maj. John André, who was hanged as a British spy by the Continental Army.

According to the lohud.com report, the section of the tavern where historians believe André was kept while awaiting trial is the most haunted.

Staff and customers have reported strange happenings, including falling glassware, feelings of coldness and the sound of sighing, the lohud.com report said.

The tavern has started to host tours organized by Ghost Hunt USA, including an already sold-out one on Tuesday, the lohud.com story said.

According to Ghost Hunt USA’s website, there will be tours at the tavern from 7 p.m.-midnight on June 9 and 30.
