STONY POINT, N.Y. -- The Rose Memorial Library in Stony Point is looking to move out and move up.

The library is hoping to put a referendum on the ballot that would allow the library to spend $717,000 for a 12,000-square foot building on West Main Street. The building would cost $1.4 million, with the library paying the rest through grants and financing, according to LoHud .

The library is currently located in a 3,500-foot building on East Main Street. The library submitted a petition signed by 560 residents to get the referendum on the ballot.

If approved, the increase would cost an estimated $90 per household for the year, according to LoHud . The current space cannot accommodate programs the library would like to offer, according to LoHud . The library would sell its current building if it moves into the new one.
