The officers, in plain clothes, are focusing on the most common violations, including ignoring pedestrian signals and failing to yield to pedestrians, police said.

The safety program comes on the heels of the recent death of a three-month-old infant and the serious injuries of three of his family members after they were mowed down by a driver who was passing on the shoulder of the road on Route 52.
