Pearl River Man Charged By Orangetown PD With DUI Following Car Accident

ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- A Pearl River man was charged with driving under the influence after his car slammed into a tree and landed upside down in the front yard of a Pearl River residence.

Eric Chanin, 23, is recovering at Westchester Medical Center, following the single-crash that happened at 5:07 a.m. Saturday, according to Orangetown Police.

When officers arrived on scene, Chanin was trapped in the car that was lying on its roof. Pearl River Fire Department firefighters responded and extricated him from the car. Medic 21 and the Pearl River Ambulance Squad also responded and treated Chanin before he was airlifted by a Stat Flight helicopter to the hospital, police said.

Chanin under went blood tests at the hospital and was charged with DUI. He is due to appear in court on Sept. 21.
