PEARL RIVER, N.Y. -- Since 1931 the clay courts at Merritt Tennis Courts in Pearl River have been home to tennis fans from across Rockland County. But soon, the courts will disappear, and in their place will be six new homes, said lohud.com.

The 3-acre property, on Ehradt Road near Townline Road owned by Ed Merritt, will be sold to a developer for almost a $1 million. The courts closed in 2014 as the tennis boom died and following the death of Merritt's father, said lohud.com.

Merritt, who grew up on the land and worked as a tennis teacher, told Lohud.com that there were regular players right until the end, added Lohud.com.
