ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Orange & Rockland Utilities is again advising its customers to be wary of scammers pretending to be representatives of the utility.
Crooks are calling O&R customers and demanding immediate payment for what the they claim are delinquent electric and gas bills.
The thieves further threaten customers with being disconnected if they don’t cough up by using a prepaid debit card or credit card, O&R said.
The utility said that it had gotten several complaints of such scam activity in Orange County on Wednesday, March 2.
It is urging anyone who has been contacted in this fashion hang up immediately and call O&R Customer Service at 1-(877) 434-4100.
