NYACK, N.Y. – Nyack Hospital has appointed a new chief medical officer to oversee the 375-bed facility on North Midland Avenue.

Dr. Anthony V. Matejicka will serve as a member of the hospital’s senior leadership team and will be responsible for all physician activities throughout the organization, according to a statement from the hospital. His primary focus will include clinical program development and performance improvement.

Matejicka is a board-certified internist and certified physician executive with a wide range of experience in senior leadership, the hospital said.

“Nyack Hospital extends a warm welcome to Dr. Matejicka,” said Dr. Mark Geller, president and CEO at Nyack Hospital. “We are excited to benefit from the extensive experience he brings in developing and implementing physician strategies that will support our organizational mission of providing quality care to the patients and community we serve.”

Matejicka joins the Nyack team from Community Medical Center, a 596-bed fully accredited acute care hospital, and Barnabas Health facility in Toms River, N.J. His earlier experience includes serving as system vice president at Texas-based Scott & White Healthcare, a 12-hospital acute-care system with 70 multi-specialty clinics.

The doctor was educated mainly in Pennsylvania and holds a bachelor’s degree from Widener University, a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Master of Public Health degree with an emphasis in healthcare policy/administration from East Stroudsburg University. He completed a rotating internship at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine in 1997 and later served as chief medical resident.

He was a practicing Internist until 2009.

Matejicka has received numerous awards throughout his career -- including the Clinical Teacher of the Year award by the Lehigh Valley Health Network-Muhlenberg in Bethlehem, Pa. -- and is a member of the American College of Physician Executives, the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association.

Nyack Hospital is affiliated with the Montefiore Health System and partners with Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. To learn more about the hospital, visit its website , or its Facebook , Twitter or YouTube accounts.
