ID Released For Lifelong Rockland Resident Found Dead In Ramapo River

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- In a strange twist of fate, a man who was found dead floating in the Ramapo River off Waldron Terrace on Tuesday, had tried to escape from police in the same river, close to the same spot, in 2015.

Richard Morgan, 51, a lifelong resident of Sloatsburg, was recovered from the water around noon just north of the Thruway rest stop off Waldron Terrace, said Capt. Antoine DeColyse. 

"At this time the investigation is ongoing and we are not releasing information, including a cause of death," said DeColyse.

Morgan was well known to police for several incidents, including the March 2015 robbery of the Sunoco Gas Station at the Ramapo rest area on I-87. 

A visitation will be held for family and friends on Tuesday, August 15 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Scarr Funeral Home, 160 Orange Ave., Suffern. Services will be held during the 8 p.m. visitation.
