NANUET, N.Y. --  Nanuet stands with the people of Charlottesville.

A vigil was held Monday night at the northwest corner of Route 59 and Middletown Road in Nanuet to show solidarity with the people of Charlottesville and in honor of Heather Heyer, the woman who was struck by a car protesting white supremacists Saturday.

The vigil featured people holding signs saying, "No Place 4 Hate," "Black Lives Matter," and waving rainbow flags.

County Executive Ed Day issued a statement Sunday saying hate has no place in Rockland County.

"White supremacists, white nationalists, Nazis, neo-Nazis, and all other hate groups are not welcome in our community," Day said. "My father and my three uncles fought the Nazis in World War II. Let’s not forget where blind hatred took the world during that dark era in history."
