Driver Seriously Injured When Fire Breaks Out After Rockland Crash

RAMAPO, N.Y. -- A driver was badly burned when his vehicle burst into flames following a car crash early Sunday, said Ramapo police.

The unidentified man was injured when he lost control of his vehicle on Scotland Hill Road around 2:32 a.m. in the Village of Chesnut Ridge and struck a tree, police said.

The driver was removed from the burning vehicle and treated by Rockland Paramedics and members of Faist Volunteer Ambulance Corp., and transported to Westchester Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries, police said.

Ramapo detectives and a New York State Police accident reconstruction team were called in to investigate the accident. 

The South Spring Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. extinguished the blaze. As of 7:00 a.m., the driver's injuries were listed as serious but not life-threatening. 

The Rockland County Sheriffs B.C.I. Unit and Spring Valley PD detectives were also assisting with the investigation.
