ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- A boil water alert is in place for homes in the immediate vicinity of Abbey Road for the Town of Orangetown after Suez Water reported a water main break at Sickletown Road in Blauvelt near the one-car tunnel on Monday.
Roads under the order include:
- Abbey Road
- Rolyn Hills
- Sickletown Road
When the distribution pipes and mains lose pressure it increases the chance that untreated water and harmful microbes could enter the system, Suez said.
Suez is alerting residents to bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health.
Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills most bacteria and other organisms in the water.
The break has been repaired. Suez is testing the water and will notify customers when the water testing is complete and the order is rescinded.
