Mayor Israel Spitzer told lohud.com this week that the need for housing and a place to shop for food is getting greater as the village’s population explodes.

The 30,000-square-foot Heritage Park Industrial Complex will be owned by the Community Improvement Council, a non-profit group that has built educational and senior citizen projects, and run by Hatzlacha Supermarkets, the lohud.com report said.

Apartment buildings are being constructed nearby and access to a supermarket is crucial for a population whose main means of transportation is walking, according to lohud.com.

It would also include a poultry packing facility, reports said. Chesed/Share of New Square, a charitable organization, would lease the offices above the supermarket.

To be built at 20 Mezritch Road, $1.6 million of the project’s cost will be covered by Empire State Development (ESD) funding under the Restore New York Communities initiative; a $600,000 grant from the ESD’s regional council’s capital fund; and a $750,000 Community Block Grant, the lohud.com article said.
