The public is invited to join the celebration at the Patriot Hills Golf Club on Sunday, Oct. 29 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Events will include a buffet luncheon for $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Reservations are being accepted through Sunday, Oct. 22.

The department was formed on Oct. 25, 1967, when Stephen G Scurti, a New York State Trooper working out of the Stony Point Barracks for the past four years, assumed the position of Stony Point’s first chief of police.

Scurti was the sole full-time police officer and worked out of one room located in the rear of the Town Hall on East Main Street.

A year later, the department had grown to include the chief and 11 part-time officers. Today,  the department features 28 full-time and 4 part-time police officers and several auxiliary officers. The department also has one full-time and two part-time clerical staff and is responsible for overseeing the dog control officer and the crossing guard staff.
