ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- Non-residents who want to use Orangetown’s parks will have to pay from now on, according to a report by lohud.com
The Town Board on Tuesday approved residency rules for the following parks: Independence Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Tappan Park, Pilgrim Court, Cherry Brook and Stoughton Park, lohud.com reported.
Exempted will be memorial areas, including the one in Veterans Memorial Park, the lohud.com report said.
Residents will be required to show identification and out-of-towners will have to register with the town’s Parks and Recreation Department and pay yearly or daily fees.
Parking, maintenance costs and a desire to bring Orangetown up to par with neighboring municipalities were cited as reasons for the change, the lohud.com article said.
Park rangers will increase their patrols of the parks, according to lohud.com.
